Staff/Trade Union Consultation

INGUB076The Health and Safety Management process relies on not only effective policies and procedures, Risk Assessment processes and financial commitment, but also on support form staff, Managers, Directors and Trade Unions.  This support is often achieved through a comprehensive consultancy process where staff and Trade Unions are able to study forthcoming policy change and give their opinions.

As the policies often include safety precautions affecting thier work, staff are key to ensure that the risks identified are accurate and relevant.

Consultation with staff and Trade Unions can be carried out in a number of ways, through meetings that are facilitated to ensure that the group remains focused on the policy consultation and that comprehensive meeting notes are taken to be used at a later date.  Staff can also be sent the information and asked to comment within a given time period and the replies collated and fed back to the policy Author.

It is a legal requirement for this consultation to take place and businesses implementing new policy, procedure or safe system of work must ensure that the appropriate staff and union bodies are consulted.
